Stars Soccer Review (SSR Volume 4) Foreword
Stars Soccer Review (SSR)
would like to thank you for your support and
valuable feedback. In this, our fourth issue of
the magazine, we bring to you an in depth look
at Trinidad and Tobago Football, and its rich
history. This includes its leagues and Winners
in Winners Circle.
With the perception that all roads in Trinidad
and Tobago football goes through its Special
Advisor, we thought it was imperative to
Interview Mr. Jack Austin Warner, Special
Advisor to the Trinidad and Tobago Football
Federation.
At Stars Soccer, we know that in sport for the
most part, you get what you put in, and with the
Soca Warriors successful 2006 World Cup campaign
as the smallest country ever, they were also the
oldest team there. So we decided to follow the
Warriors 2010 W-C Campaign to spot the changes
if any.
SSR took the
time to talk with Everald “Gally” Cummings and
Bertille St Clair, two of T&T’s most successful
coaches. We also got a brief word with one of
T&T all time greats, Leroy “Dilly” De Leon, in
which he commented on the Soca Warriors in
Germany and their 2010 Campaign.
We interviewed
Dexter Skeene, (CEO of the TT-Pro league) about
his role and the league’s role as it relates to
T&T Football. As the pendulum by which a country
sport revolves, we thought it wise to interview
the Honourable Gary Hunt, Trinidad and Tobago
Minister of Sport and Youth Affairs.
We covered the
winners of the Secondary School Football league
(SSFL), which reinforces the theory that the
breading ground for football talent, is in the
School System. We saw raw and exceptional talent
in the SSFL, with the National U-17 and U-20
players in both the Boys and Girls Division.
There were also diamonds in the rough at the
Primary school level.
In Volume 4,
you will find all the Trinidad and Tobago teams
which participated in World Cups or Youth
Championship. What we discovered, was that the
Soca Warriors players who lead the team to World
Cup Germany, was back and was not a factor in
leading the team in the 2010 qualifiers.
Alvin Corneal,
assessment of Trinidad and Tobago football, in
his article in the magazine is pretty close to
being on the money. “ONE
FOOT FORWARD - -TWO STEPS BACKWARDS”.
Corneal is a
former T&T national coach and player, and is
presently a member of FIFA’s Study Group.
More
importantly, Trinidad and Tobago senior men’s
football team is at the crossroads and may be
forced to expose its younger players. Hence, we
asked Kenwyne Jones, the highest profile Soca
Warriors player at present, to comment on his
thoughts of leading the Soca Warriors forward.
(Don’t Back-Back)
Tobago
football is also on the rise, and we went to
Tobago to cover the first International football
match in its history, at the Dwight York
Stadium. We also covered Tobago’s Digicel
Premier League, in which Stokelyvale won, and
later qualified to play in the T&T National
Super league for the upcoming season
