Bay, JAMAICA: - The Reggae Boyz
finished the job to which they had recommitted by
defeating Soca Warriors 4-3 on penalty kicks to
win the CFU Cup. The Boyz opened the tournament with a less than
impressive 1-1 draw against Martinique and many were of
the belief that it would have
been the end of Winfried Schäfe's tenure as coach of
Jamaica if the Boyz did not make it to the final.
But all is well that ends
well as coach Schäfe got steady play from his defense, consistent scoring
from Darren Mattocks and stellar performances from captain
Rudolph Austin and Je-Vaughn Watson in the midfield as
his Jamaica side proved to be the class of the field.
The Reggae Boyz went on to defeat Antigua and
Barbuda 3-0 in their second Group B match before scoring
two goals in the opening 20 minutes against Haiti in
their third match and advanced to the championship final as
the group winner.
The Haiti win carried
automatic qualification to the 2015 CONCACAF Gold Cup
and a clash in the championship final with Caribbean
arch rival Trinidad and Tobago.
